What is Email Marketing?

Email Marketing is one of the best performing advertisement methods. So what is email marketing in simple words:
It is a sort of news channel where you can reach high potential customers.
How do you find these high potential customers for your business or service?
You collect their emails voluntarily.
Where you can collect emails voluntarily?
Leave a paper submission form in a shopping center and put a gift next to that form. That gift can be a car, a PC, a flat, a yacht… Ask their name, age, sex, address, annual income, education, expertise, job, have an house or rent, email, interests, hobbies etc… And ask them for their permission to reach them via email for marketing purposes…
Hire someone to enter these information in an excel file or in an opt-in form. Note there will be thousands of information to be processed.
Make the draw (lottery), and delivered the promised gift to the winner(s). Make sure you follow the local laws for drawing lottery and do all tax related stuff!
Now you have finished first level of marketing campaign and you spend price of gift, tax, legal forms, rent of gift stage in the shopping mall and other outsourcing stuff… Let’s say you have spend grand total of $40k. And you only have a list of people’s information which is segmented by age, sex, annual income, education, interests, hobbies etc… And say this list has a size of 20000.
Now you can sign up to any an email marketing agency to import these lists and send emails to your high potential customers.
For instance, a high potential customer:
Age:24
Sex: Male
Education: College Grad
interests: surfing, trekking, outdoor sports
You can send him offers like:
Sports injury insurance
New sports equipment
Sports event tickets etc
Another high potential customer:
Age: 43
Sex: Female
Education: College Grad
interests: kids education, home design, real estate
You can send her offers like:
Homeschooling offers
Best local kinder gardens
Real estate business offers etc
Most email marketing tools have reporting features such as:
Percent of people who opened your email
Percent of people who clicked the link in the email and viewed the offer
Percent of people who purchased that offer…..
Also you can see who actually opened email, clicked links, purchased that offer. So you can retarget them.
Or you can resend that offer who didn’t opened your email in 7 days.
Most marketing tools embed and unsubscribe link in your emails so they can opt out from your list.
According to my experience there are 2 successful email marketing tools with free trial options.
Aweber: One of the oldest email delivery firm, has very high rate of email delivery to customers inbox (Most email marketing tools can not pass spam filter of email recipient)
GetResponse: It is not as good as aweber in delivery success rate but it has additional tools like opt-in forms that you can embed in your web page so you can collect emails of customers.
